About the show
Light on the rules. Heavy on the nonsense.
The BastardQuest podcast brings together four friends from over ten years of improv and sketch comedy, indie filmmaking, and pop culture podcasts.
Forged in the small town obscurity of western Kentucky, BastardQuest takes a unique approach to the world of actual play podcasts, with a format based around ridiculous narrative setups, colorful character acting, balanced crunch, and the art of improvisation.
Over time, our show has also grown to include a healthy dose of lesser-known tabletop roleplaying games, shining a spotlight on exciting new releases, uniquely fascinating systems, and independent developers and publishers.
The Bastards
Kyle
Kyle, the main GM for Bastard Quest, has been playing TTRPGs for over 30 years. Beyond that, he’s a stereotypical nerd who reads fantasy and sci-fi novels, watches movies of all types, and plays video games mostly badly.
In real life, Kyle is a human person that works as a marketing consultant and a commercial video producer. Which is way less cool than it sounds.
You can find Kyle running games for normal people at Startplaying.games.
Cory
Cory is a musician, sometimes filmmaker, and podcaster. He enjoys bourbon, movies, punk rock, cats, bourbon, beer, and bourbon. Cory dislikes soup, some birds, pears, The Grateful Dead, and people who don’t use their turn signal.
Cory got into tabletop roleplaying because Kyle made him do it. Luckily he ended up really enjoying it. He does the editing and music for BastardQuest.
When he’s not doing podcast shit, Cory plays bass and hollers in Off With Their Meds.
Todd
Todd is the oldest of the Bastards and comes from a theater, radio, improv, and cave painting background. His fondest memories include performing standup comedy, watching the first talkie, and seeing an early prototype of the cotton gin.
He is the world’s foremost authority on mime team Shields and Yarnell and when he is not podcasting he is probably in pain and wishing for the sweet release of death but the Eldritch Gods refuse to diminish his life force until his dark purpose is fulfilled.
Austin
Austin is a graphic designer, artist, and filmmaker from the backwoods of western Kentucky. He enjoys writing and drawing, whether as a hobby or as part of development for one of a dozen ongoing projects.
His fascination with TTRPGs comes from learning how a game can integrate its setting with its system. You might think this would make for more successful rolls, but you’d be wrong.
